Charlotte H. Quinn: Batik
Charlotte H Quinn is a Kill Devil Hills native, who grew up on the beaches and in
the water of North Carolina's Outer Banks. While in her teens, she started body
boarding and thus started her interest in the ocean, waves, and surfing.  In 1991,
Charlotte was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina University
School of Art with a double major in printmaking and fiber art.

The artist decided to combine her love of surfing, the ocean and the carefree beach
lifestyle, with her batiks on silk. The freeflowing wax lines that her Indonesian tjanting
tool creates, along with mixing and painting of the fabric dyes on silk, is the perfect
way for Charlotte to express her love of surfing and the ocean.  In the summer of
2008, she decided to combine her surf art ideas, with her husband Jim Quinn's,
old Avalon, NJ surf shop name, to create New Vision Surf Art and studio. The studio
is based in their Kill Devil Hills home.

Using different mediums, she has won various awards in the local Mollie Fearing
and Frank Stick art shows. In 2005, Charlotte's batik, "In the Pocket" won the 2006
Beach Book cover( the one with the surfer on it). She has participated in The OBX
Summer Arts Festival, held at the Hilton in Kitty Hawk, NC, The Art of Surfing Festival
in Ocean City, NJ, The Brendan Borek Artists and Friends Art Show in Avalon, NJ, and
donates artwork to the Surfing for Autism event held in Nags Head, as well as other
charity events. Charlotte's work can also be seen, along with other artists in the
"Milepost", a free new local magazine.

Charlotte is a member of the local Surfrider Chapter and can be found out in the water
surfing with her husband, Jim and their two children, Chris and Savannah.

Custom designs are welcome. Feel free to check out her work on Facebook, at
Sweet T's in Duck, NC, or The KDH Co-operative Gallery in Kill Devil Hills, NC.
